Over the years, they had bonded over rescuing and upcycling items through Olio for their home and garden. So, when they got engaged, they knew they wanted their special day to reflect their shared values of creativity, sustainability, and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>For us, Olio inspired a mindset of reducing waste in all areas of our life, giving a new life to the unwanted items of others, and letting go of things we no longer needed so other people could enjoy them in turn. So it made sense that this would also apply to the wedding day. Little Gu jars often found on Olio became tealight holders, filled with rainbow gems and glowing candles, while colourful paper lanterns decorated the ceiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&nbsp;The one which surprised me the most was when my fianc\u00e9 said she was thinking of making favour decorations from someone&#8217;s curtain rings.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"864\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/01\/OS_cropped3-864x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Sustainable wedding decorations from curtain rings\" class=\"wp-image-3937\" style=\"width:500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/01\/OS_cropped3-864x1024.jpg 864w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/01\/OS_cropped3-253x300.jpg 253w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/01\/OS_cropped3-768x910.jpg 768w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/01\/OS_cropped3.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 864px) 100vw, 864px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the couple\u2019s favourite upcycled pieces was a children\u2019s easel, painted as a welcome sign with stencils also sourced from Olio\u2014proof that sustainability can be both stylish and meaningful. When we were finished with these, we passed them onto someone who was getting married later that year. It was nice to know these had been passed on several times now.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-default\"><strong>What do you love the most about using Olio?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I love the fact that something you have no use for might be exactly what someone else is looking for and vice versa. I like the way it adds to the lifespan of items and means they can be reused over and over again. I also love it when we collect doughnuts and ingredients for dinner from our local <a href=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/become-an-olio-volunteer\/\">Food Waste Hero<\/a>!<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Heather and her wife recently tied the knot, Olio played a special role in their wedding.
