She\u2019d never come across the app before, but the idea of saving surplus food instantly made sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From then on, she signed up as a <a href=\"https:\/\/help.olioapp.com\/en\/articles\/12277114-what-is-a-food-waste-hero-and-how-do-i-get-started\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Food Waste Hero<\/a> and began collecting free food almost daily. She shares her collections of unsold food with fellow Olio-ers, family and her colleagues, who request it via the app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI believe in saving food waste and know that businesses can have a lot of unsold food. Having good food ready to hand makes a meaningful difference on long 12-hour shifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So when Svitlana arrives with bags of rescued meals requested by her colleagues (nurses, consultants and surgeons) rush over and collect it with gratitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cOne doctor told me that it&#8217;s a lifesaver and by getting free food through Olio he can save up to \u00a360 a week.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/11\/image-3-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4436\" style=\"width:600px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/11\/image-3-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/11\/image-3-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/11\/image-3-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2025\/11\/image-3.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Svitlana, sharing food quickly became a way to support not only her local Olio-ers, but also the people she works alongside every day. And it didn\u2019t take long before others were inspired! A few nurses, as well as her daughter,\u00a0 also joined in and became <a href=\"https:\/\/help.olioapp.com\/en\/articles\/12140082-becoming-an-olio-supporter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Olio Supporters<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cShe has been able to share food with strangers, family, nurses, consultants and surgeons all through Olio.
