At Olio, our mission is simple: fewer things wasted, and more things kept in circulation. What started as a free food app between a handful of neighbours now sees over £100 million worth of free food and household items given away every year! That’s around £274,000 every single day 😱

What does £100m of free stuff look like in real life? Let’s take a look 👀

So where does it all come from?

Most of it is surplus food from local shops, cafes and supermarkets like Tesco, Pret, Sainsbury’s and many more.

Our amazing Food Waste Heroes rescue that food daily and share it with people in their local community – completely free. In fact, our volunteers clocked up 2.5 million volunteering hours in 2025 🤯 💪

Just take a look at this incredible surplus food collection, worth around £140, shared by a TikTok user @lornrussell:

My latest Olio collection from Sainsbury’s had LOADS of meat and fish, as well as veg and other goodies – it came to just under £140 full price, which is crazy! I get to keep 10% then the rest is listed on the app for people to get from me for free, to try and reduce food waste. #olio #foodwaste #moneysavingtips #frugal #sainsburys
♬ original sound – Lorna
