She first came across Olio in 2022, when a good friend told her about it, and she\u2019s been using it ever since.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the years, she\u2019s picked up all sorts of free finds on the app: clothes, shoes, a USB electric fan, and a large canvas of the New York skyline that lights up when you switch it on \u2013 that\u2019s where Lisa and her husband William got married in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then one day, Lisa struck gold when she found a free exercise bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"769\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-1-769x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5204\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7514450867052023;width:390px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-1-769x1024.jpeg 769w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-1-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-1-768x1022.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-1-1154x1536.jpeg 1154w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-1.jpeg 1160w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 769px) 100vw, 769px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI always try to keep as mobile as possible, but when I saw the exercise bike on Olio, I thought, why not? When the weather is bad, I can still keep mobile. Considering the bike was free it\u2019s been worth its weight in gold! \u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Lisa first got the bike, the milometer read just 6 km \u2013 now it\u2019s at 1,213 km. Lisa started riding whenever she couldn\u2019t get outside, often with an audiobook playing, which helps her go for miles without realising it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt has enabled me to keep active and fight this disease, even when the weather is bad outside. I also had a USB electric fan I collected from Olio situated in front of the bike to cool me down when we get the heatwaves. It\u2019s amazing!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, William spent a lot of time in hospital after two bouts of pneumonia and\u00a0the exercise bike helped him through his recovery too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt\u2019s helped with my mobility issues having MS, and also my husband when he was getting over two bouts of pneumonia last year, which caused a lot of muscle wastage. It\u2019s helped us both so much! \u201c<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bike has also helped Lisa to give back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"463\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-463x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5203\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.4514285714285714;width:316px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-463x1024.jpeg 463w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-136x300.jpeg 136w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image.jpeg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt\u2019s helped me raise over \u00a310,000 for various charities including the MS Society, MND Association, Cancer Research, Humanimal Trust, British Heart Foundation, Friends of the Earth and more.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lisa started to raise money for charities with a 50K challenge in May for the MS society. After that, Lisa kept setting herself new challenges, sometimes walking, sometimes on the bike, and each one raised money for a charity close to her heart.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the challenges Lisa completed with her husband William. Together, they took on 100 miles, following a virtual route around New York, for the MND Association, after the disease took Lisa\u2019s uncle a few years ago.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"520\" height=\"994\" src=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-edited-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5206\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.52375;width:419px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-edited-1.png 520w, https:\/\/olioapp.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1\/2026\/10\/image-edited-1-157x300.png 157w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAs it was a virtual challenge, you put in your mileage each day and it would show you on the map where you were. Every time you passed 20% of the challenge, the organisers would plant a tree in your honour, whether it be in the UK or worldwide. So again, you were doing good!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lisa\u2019s latest challenge <a href=\"https:\/\/justgiving.com\/page\/lisa-murray-lang-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has been raising money<\/a> for the British Heart Foundation, in honour of William, who lives with heart failure and was due to have a heart operation the day after his birthday. She set her target at \u00a3500, but managed to raise \u00a3700!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI\u2019m so proud of how brave he is. That\u2019s why I had to do something. I couldn\u2019t just sit and dwell and stress. I had to do something to keep my mind occupied. Stress is not good for my condition.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does Olio mean to you?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt\u2019s amazing what you can find on Olio and people are so kind! It\u2019s such a great way of recycling rather than throwing things away. I\u2019m always recommending it to others and we were able to get rid of a lot of furniture when my mother in law passed away, she would be happy that her items were going to people that needed them. I absolutely LOVE Olio!
