Coral Moore from Fareham, Portsmouth started collecting surplus Tesco food through Olio after hearing about it from fellow volunteers – and it’s turned into something really special.
Supporting local causes, and bringing joy to those around her 🍓
Now retired, Coral was looking for a way to stay active and connected. Through Olio, she’s found just that. Each week, she picks up Tesco fruit and veg from Olio’s Food Waste Heroes and turns them into beautiful homemade jams — from classics like raspberry and plum to more adventurous mixes like banana, lime and vanilla. These jars are gifted or used to support local causes, bringing a little joy (and flavour) to those around her.
Supplying community lunch clubs with Tesco surplus 🌽
But the impact doesn’t stop there. Coral’s husband, who runs a community lunch club and has received a British Empire Medal for his dedication, also benefits from Tesco food donations. One standout moment? Receiving 15 bags of Tesco allrounder potatoes – enough to prepare a roast lamb dinner for 24 people. “The cooks couldn’t believe how good the quality was,” Coral recalls.
“Olio’s changed my life for the better”
For Coral, collecting Tesco food has become more than just routine. She’s created new friendships and connections – from chatting at pickups to bonding over shared interests like knitting and gardening.
“Olio’s changed my life for the better,” she says. “It gives me purpose, helps others, and brings our community closer together.”
