Iceland is working with Olio on Lucky Dip nationally – rolling out our mystery bags across over 900 stores 💪
We are over the moon to announce that from today, Iceland is rolling out Olio’s Lucky Dip bags nationally across 900+ Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores 🚀✨
Each Lucky Dip bag costs just £2, and is advertised on Olio’s app. They contain at least eight grocery items (from baked goods to fresh fruit & veg, chilled meats or deli products) – giving shoppers great value AND driving down Iceland’s overall food waste.
The first retailer to implement Olio’s full food waste tech stack
This latest layer of our partnership makes Iceland the first retailer to partner with Olio on an end-to-end food waste solution that covers both discounting and redistribution.
Combined with Reductions Feed (with Gander) and our Food Waste Heroes Programme, Iceland has now implemented Olio’s full food waste tech stack – for one powerful, streamlined approach to food waste via our centralised platform.
Since 2022, Iceland has been working with Olio to redistribute any unsold surplus food to the local community when stores close. It’s via this element of our partnership that they can make sure that no Lucky Dip bags go to waste.
So far, our partnership with Iceland has resulted in over 4 million kilograms of food being rescued and shared with people living near Iceland’s stores. That’s the equivalent of 9.3 million free meals provided to local communities since 2022 😯🤩
So how does Lucky Dip work?
Lucky Dip bags are listed on the Olio app, where users reserve them before heading into the store during a set collection window to pick up their bag.
Any unsold or unclaimed bags are then collected by Olio volunteers and shared locally, making sure nothing goes to waste.
